Role of deodorant

“Deodorant is overrated.” At least this is the statement made by various individuals I’ve encountered over the course of my lifetime. Whereas it’s often considered a necessity by today’s young generation, the same self-awareness appears lost upon the aging population of the office workplace. Here in California, a hot day can easily mean a moist afternoon and dark patches on the dress shirts of fellow co-workers. Not too uncommon, the air can dissipate with the heat from the natural aroma of the office fauna to the muggy thickness of a higher humidity. It’s on these grounds that office buddies finally get to know each other in the most undesirable way. When it comes to applying deodorant, it’s important to remember that it’s not that you need it. More so, it’s that the people you treasure and share space with demand that you use it.
There are many common brand names of deodorant that can be found in the business bags and on the tables of the respectful few. For men, there’s always Old Spice, Arm & Hammer, Degree, Axe, Mitchum, and Ralph Lauren to name a few. For women, the aisle appears just as lavish full of a selection that includes brand names like Dove, Avon, Crystal, Pino Silvestre, Clinique, and etc. Likewise for women, specialty stores like The Body Shop and Bath & Body Works appear ever so eager to provide suitable alternatives for those who are discontent in buying the generic stick from the local department store.
Altogether, it seems clear that limited selection is not a valid hindering factor in regards to what ought to be a social norm in society.
A recent radio program addressed the concept of smell to the owner of the scent. Here the broadcaster cited that a scientific study had come to show that a person who is able to smell his own scent actually perceives it to be several times less distinct than the perception of another. It’s common knowledge that everyone has a certain smell that radiates from them. Naturally, each person is more prone to become familiar to his own smell and to find it more appealing than that of others. Social norms also dictate that a person isn’t likely to inform another if they are indeed radiating a repulsive scent that is relatively tolerable. This factor will often lead to several misinformed persons who will go about their duties unaware that their scent is having a charismatic impact on their surroundings.
In conclusion, be courteous to your fellow man! Wear deodorant at all times!
